Hail can damage a roof without leaving anything you can see from the ground. We find it, document it with photos, and repair or replace what's damaged.
When hail hits an asphalt shingle, it knocks off the protective granules and can crack the mat underneath. The shingle may look fine from the street, but it now ages faster and can start leaking months later.
Size matters. Research presented to the American Meteorological Society found that hail about 1 inch across can damage standard 3-tab shingles, and about 1.25 inches can damage heavier architectural shingles. Gutters, vents and siding can show dents from smaller hail.
